Cheers to You, Mary!

This day, we are here not just to celebrate a birthday, but to honour a truly remarkable woman, our beautiful friend, Mary Macharia, as she steps fabulously into her 60s.

We affectionately call ourselves The Golden Girls, not just because of our love for a good laugh, a bit of fizz, and the occasional questionable dance moves, but because of the friendship, loyalty, and love we’ve built over the years. The Golden Girls do occasionally manage to give back to themselves too, usually involving a meal out, a drink , a visit to one of our homes where we are fed and entertained and as I said a lot of laughter! But tonight, Mary it’s not about the the Golden Girls, but its all about giving back to you. You are, without a doubt, the heart of it all.

You’ve always been among the steady ones. The calm in the chaos. The one with the biggest heart and a quiet strength that lifts others, especially our leader, our very own Mother Hen, Nelly Mwangi.

But your love and care haven’t stopped there. You’ve been there for Issack and their daughter Cassandra too, for the past 17 years, with every single thing you’ve done for them, given with love, devotion, and dedication. You are not just a friend to us, you are family to them.

And as for us all, how many times have we turned up to visit with or without notice, only to find you making sure we are well looked after? A hot cuppa ready, a delicious meal on the table, without ever complaining just quietly getting on with making sure we were fed, full, and happy.

And let’s not forget your fabulous touch! We’ve all seen how you’ve lovingly help Nelly put together her glamorous outfits and accessories, making sure she always looks and feels like the queen she is.

But don’t be fooled by the calm and quiet, yes you should not because when the music starts, Mary you are the heart of the dance floor! First one on, last one off, showing us all how it’s done with style, sparkle, and stamina.

You’ve shown us that true friendship is not about big words, but about love in action steady, loyal, and full of fun.

So here’s to you for your loyalty, your wicked sense of humour, your sharp eye for a bit of glamour, and your impressive dance moves.

We love you, we thank you, and we are so proud to call you our friend.
